Dr. Ken Kolson, the Director of the Washington Academic Internship Program, will spend next spring semester as a Fulbright U.S. Scholar in Lithuania. Kolson will be teaching in the department of public administration at the University of Siauliai, a regional university with about 9,000 students.

The Fulbright Program is a program of highly competitive, merit based grants for international educational exchange for students, scholars, teachers, professionals, scientists and artists, founded by United States Senator J. William Fulbright in 1946. Under the Fulbright Program, competitively selected U.S. citizens may become eligible for scholarships to study, conduct research, or exercise their talents abroad and citizens of other countries may qualify to do the same in the United States.

Professor Jason Seligman is part of a National Public Radio story by Alan Greenblatt called “Whatever Happened To The Economy?” Jobs and the economy dominated political discussion during the election year, but have since been forgotten. Dr. Carole Wagner has a article accepted in Research Evaluation, the article is entitled “Evaluating Transformative Research Programs: A Case Study of the NSF Small Grants for Exploratory Research (SGER) Program.” Research Evaluation is an interdisciplinary journal covering the emerging methods, experiences and lessons for appraising and evaluating research.

Professor Jos Raadschelders will deliver the keynote lecture, titled “Convergence of Disciplines for Global and Public Problem Solving: Necessities and Possibilities”, opening the annual conference of the Korean Social Science Research Council on May 16 in Seoul, Korea. This year’s theme is “Convergence of Arts, Humanities, Natural and Social Sciences for Global and Public Problem Solving.”

As part of her Glenn School graduate assistantship with Franklin County Commissioner Marilyn Brown, Estera Pirosca (MPA ’13), interviewed immigrants who settled in the county. The stories Estera wrote about the people she met has been turned into a book, “Portraits of Immigration: Journeys Toward Belonging”.

The John Glenn School's delegate to the Council of Graduate Students (CGS), Abigail Bell, was awarded "CGS Delegate of the Year." She was recognized for her outstanding service to both her peers at the John Glenn School and colleagues on CGS. In her role, Abigail secured a competitive grant that made PASA's first annual banquet in February possible, traveled to Washington DC twice to lobby on behalf of graduate students at Ohio State, and connected Glenn students to a number of opportunities provided by CGS.

A paper co-authored by Professor Stéphane Lavertu received the 2013 Joseph Wholey Distinguished Scholarship Award from the American Society for Public Administration for outstanding scholarship on performance in public and nonprofit organizations. Lavertu and Donald Moynihan, professor of public affairs at the Robert M. La Follette School of Public Affairs at the University of Wisconsin, published the article, “Does Involvement in Performance Management Routines Encourage Performance Information Use? Evaluating GPRA and PART,” in 2012 in Public Administration Review. »Click here to learn more and read the abstract of the paper.
